Curation Stations
The band takes the stage. The drummer taps uh 1. uh 2. uh 1, 2, 3, 4. The audience stampedes the dance floor and screams the lyrics in unison.
The teacher walks to the front of the class. They rap their knuckles on the podium. The class quiets down waiting for their next book assignment.
The grocery store manager peruses the aisles. They scan up and down to make sure the store is well stocked. They place the newest food craze directly in the shopper's line of sight.
The band was signed by a music label then broadcasted in support of their upcoming tour. The teacher assigned their students a novel from the county approved reading list. The local grocery store chain stocked what national headquarters advised and supplied.
A group of people (not you) decided what should be shown. Curation happens all around us. Most of the time there is not an algorithm conveniently taking the blame.
