Power from the people

I drove my rental car to a gas station to refill it before the return. Turns out Google Maps sent me to a place that no longer operated at all.

If enough annoyed people spend the time to report this location as closed, then Google will eventually update their database of places and spaces. From then on when a person searches for Gas Station Near Me, they will not be routed here.

The "magic" algorithm trained on billions of data points with highly distributed computing power might not be so special after all. All the machines have to do is listen to several motivated humans manually flagging it as closed.
