The Modern Data Stack may be a misnomer.

The set of recent data tooling is more complex, more sprawling, and more abstract than anything that came before it.

In our collective quest to turn everything to code, the required knowledge to effectively manage data has significantly increased.

The list of requirements for a Data job posting are getting longer. Without 7 years of Python, 3 years of dbt, 2 years of Kubernetes and at least 2 production grade AI applications under your belt, then you have no chance.

But if we can learn anything from waves of change in art, music, and architecture, then we can be confident the tides will turn.

Ornamentation may dissolve away to reveal a simplicity underneath.
